Visit of the Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Germany Dr. Guido Westerwelle
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin T.D., will meet
the Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Germany, Dr. Guido
Westerwelle, in Dublin on Thursday 2 September.
The meeting follows on from Minister Martin’s visit to Germany last
April, providing a further opportunity to exchange views with
Minister Westerwelle on the current EU agenda and a range of
bilateral and international issues.
In the context of the forthcoming European Council on 16 September,
the items to be covered will include the EU’s approach to managing
its relations with major global partners, now that the Lisbon
Treaty arrangements are in place, and the ongoing work of the
Taskforce on Economic Governance chaired by European Council
President, Herman Van Rompuy.
Note for editors
· The Taskforce on Economic Governance was established by EU leaders in March to report on the future economic governance in the European Union. The Task Force was requested to propose measures to bring about better budgetary discipline and an improved crisis resolution framework. Three full Task Force meetings have taken place since May and the next meeting will take place on 6 September.
