Minister for Foreign Affairs announces new Ambassadorial Appointments


The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., has announced that the Government today agreed on the nomination of Irish Ambassadors to a number of countries. The appointments will be subject to the agreements of the countries concerned.

The nominations are as follows:

Mr. James Sharkey, at present Ambassador to Denmark, to be Ambassador to Russia and also to Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Richard A. O'Brien, at present Ambassador to Australia, to be Ambassador to Denmark.

Mr. John Swift, at present Ambassador to the Netherlands, to be Ambassador to Cyprus

Mr. Martin Greene, at present at HQ, to be Ambassador to Brazil.

Mr. Joseph Hayes, at present at HQ, to be Ambassador to the Czech Republic and Ukraine

Mr. Gary Ansbro, at present at HQ, to be Ambassador to Slovenia.

Mr. Dan Mulhall, at present Consul General in Edinburgh, to be Ambassador to Malaysia, and also to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Mr. Declan Kelly, at present at HQ, to be Ambassador to Australia, and also to Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Mr. Thomas Lyons, at present Ambassador to Iran, to be Ambassador to Slovakia

Mr. Seán Farrell, at present Counsellor at HQ, to be Ambassador to Estonia.

Mr. Thomas O. Bolster, at present Counsellor at HQ, to be Ambassador to Iran and Pakistan.
