Passport Fees

A list of prices for various passport services. Includes fees for urgent travel requirements.

In giving effect to Statutory Instrument 47 of 2011, from 11 April 2011,

  1. Passport fees are being re-introduced for citizens aged 65 and over
  2. The fee for applications submitted in Ireland, other than through the ‘Passport Express’ Service (including for Northern Ireland), will increase by €15.

The following are fees for Standard Passports issued in Ireland with effect from 11th April 2011:

Standard Passport for a person aged 3 years or over but must be under 18 years submitted over the counter at the Passport Office Dublin or Passport Office Cork €41.50

Public Counter Urgent Fee

Payable, upon proof of urgent travel, for passports required to be issued within five days following application.  This fee is in addition to the appropriate passport fee as set out above.

Please note that this is not an 'on demand' service and applications will take a minimum of three days to process.

Out of Hours Emergency Service Administration Fee

This is for the issue of a temporary passport of limited validity by the Department's out of hours emergency service. 

A further application must be made for a standard passport for any subsequent travel. The payment of the appropriate fee as set out above will apply.

Passports issued outside of Ireland by Irish Embassies/Consulates are charged in Euro or at the equivalent local currency rate.


Applications in Ireland

Payment may be made by cash, cheque, postal order, bank draft or debit/credit card when applying in person at the Passport Office in Dublin or Cork.

Fees for Passport Express [Only in Ireland and UK]

Fees for applications made through the Passport Express Service should be paid to the Post Office in question. There is an additional processing fee for this service.  Please see the An Post website for these fees.

If applying by Passport Express you pay the combined passport fee and the Post Office processing fee at the Post Office.  [The application form includes a section [section 1] where debit/credit card details may be entered. This does not apply to applications sent by Passport Express and should not be completed in such cases].

Applications made abroad

The local currency equivalent of the fee will be notified by the relevant Irish Embassy or Consulate . If you wish to pay by cheque, the Embassy or Consulate in question will advise the correct payment details to enter on the cheque. You may be asked to pay other charges (e.g. courier or other postal costs) incurred in providing the service.
