Minister Ahern welcomes Israeli Government decision to facilitate President Arafat’s possible transfer to hospital abroad
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern T.D., welcomed today’s decision by the Israeli Government to facilitate President Yasser Arafat’s possible transfer to hospital abroad to allow for appropriate medical care and to guarantee his return.
The Minister emphasised the Government’s concern that President Arafat should be allowed to leave for medical treatment, and upon his recovery return to his office. This concern had been drawn to the attention of the Israeli authorities by the Irish Ambassador in Tel Aviv, and the Minister welcomed Israel’s confirmation that it shared the humanitarian concerns of the international community and would facilitate President Arafat’s movements.
The Minister concluded by offering his sincere wishes for President Arafat’s speedy recovery.
