New U.S. Ambassador presents Credentials
His Excellency Mr. Thomas C. Foley presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Jonathon Benton, Deputy Head of Mission and Colonel Paul Flynn, Defence Attaché at the Embassy.
The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Mr. Noel Dempsey T.D., was present at the ceremony.
Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary General to the President; Mr. Dermot Gallagher, Secretary General at the Department of Foreign Affairs; Ms Kathleen White, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Joe Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin under the command of 2nd Lieutenant David Coughlan.
The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by the DFTC Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare under the command of Lieutenant Dermot Farrelly.
The Army No. 1 Band was conducted by Lieutenant Brian Prendergast.
